Our New Hobby : Livio Radio Pandora stations
We have always liked Pandora Internet radio. You can be your own DJ, and listen to the music you like. They also queue up artisits with same musical quality that introduces you to new artists. When we played some Indian songs that is the best selection of Indian music we have heard. Following is what we have right now.
We were wondering what is a smart way of introducing Olivia to lots of different music genres. Nothing better than Pandora. Ofcourse we did not want her to be on our computer all the time. Luckily when we were roaming around in Target we saw Livio Radio for Pandora on clearance. What a treat!! The music is free. Just type in "Sting", or "Lata Mangeshkar" and they create a radio station for you. You can also create a Quick mix of all of your stations too ..
What do you think got Olivia screaming and running to the radio. Her Mama Mia songs!! You should see her dancing "You can dance, You can Swing, I am the dancing queen". We never thought we would have a daughter who loves Abba songs.
Now we are wondering how to connect the radio to the amplifier and the home surround system. We have never tried out the surround system of the house. Will it even work? Don't know. That is a project.
Music Genome Project
The other most fascinating aspect of Pandora is that it is created off of the Music Genome Project. For us engineering fellas that is quite a treat
On January 6, 2000 a group of musicians and music-loving technologists came together with the idea of creating the most comprehensive analysis of music ever.
Together they set out to capture the essence of music at the most fundamental level. They ended up assembling literally hundreds of musical attributes or "genes" into a very large Music Genome. Taken together these genes capture the unique and magical musical identity of a song - everything from melody, harmony and rhythm, to instrumentation, orchestration, arrangement, lyrics, and of course the rich world of singing and vocal harmony. It's not about what a band looks like, or what genre they supposedly belong to, or about who buys their records - it's about what each individual song sounds like.
Since they started back in 2000, they've carefully listened to the songs of tens of thousands of different artists - ranging from popular to obscure - and analyzed the musical qualities of each song one attribute at a time.
I would love to be part of this team. Thank you Music Genome Project members.
